I Have Touched The Void by Ma'ah, The Conflicted Poet <AnseRan@aol.com>
I Have Touched The Void (The message was found floating in the data stream, voice uploaded, unattached to any specific computer and undated.) Today, I watched a blood red sun rise Behind the darkened mountains And turn them into flame. The light flowed like lava down the hills To pool across the valley And so begin the day. I feel the weight of my responsibilities, The hopes, fears, and needs of my people Laying heavily upon me. Our two peoples regard each other with suspicion and arrogance But I have come to know you, and have found in you a nobility And strength of purpose that I did not expect. And what today is true may not be so tomorrow. I have stood in silence and seen the earth Spinning blue white and brown against the backdrop of a thousand stars. And felt a longing that I have never known. I have held the hand of a dying man And gazed into his eyes as his tortured soul Struggled to free itself from the bondage of his body. I have heard the song of the stars played upon the earth by a human woman. And all thoughts of lies and deception were forgotten for one brief moment. And only beauty was heard. But now the day has ended. The light does not fade as much as drift away. On soft butterfly wings and electronic hymns. Will you read these words and understand, or will they fade unnoticed? A file deleted, a paper tossed, A sound un-uttered. All plots and plans have been swept away. Leaving behind only an emptiness, a silence, And a waiting. I have touched the void and seen what lies beyond. It has moved my soul. And I am not afraid. (Lily shivered as she read the words and realized that she could not tell if they had been written by Daan.....or Boone.)
